Linux Kernel up to 6.18.9 spi tegra_slink_probe memory leak

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.199/6.1.162/6.6.123/6.12.69/6.18.9. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function tegra_slink_probe of the component spi. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: tegra: Fix a memory leak in tegra_slink_probe() In tegra_slink_probe(), when platform_get_irq() fails, it directly returns from the function with an error code, which causes a memory leak. Replace it with a goto label to ensure proper cleanup.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-23182 since 01/13/2026. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 299080 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-23182), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.15.200, 6.1.163, 6.6.124, 6.12.70 or 6.18.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 6a04dc650cef8d52a1ccb4ae245dbe318ffff32e/327b71326cc1834bc031e8f52a470a18dfd9caa6/126a09f4fcd2b895a818ca43fde078d907c1ac9a/075415ae18b5b3e4d0187962d538653154216fe7/b8eec12aa666c11f8a6ad1488c568f85c58875fa/41d9a6795b95d6ea28439ac1e9ce8c95bbca20fc is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (299080), EUVD (EUVD-2026-5860) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0421). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
