Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.9. This issue affects the function i2c_imx_master_isr of the component i2c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i2c: imx: preserve error state in block data length handler When a block read returns an invalid length, zero or >I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX, the length handler sets the state to IMX_I2C_STATE_FAILED. However, i2c_imx_master_isr() unconditionally overwrites this with IMX_I2C_STATE_READ_CONTINUE, causing an endless read loop that overruns buffers and crashes the system. Guard the state transition to preserve error states set by the length handler.
