Details
A vulnerability was found in GFI MailEssentials AI up to 22.3 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function ListServer.IsPathExist of the file /MailEssentials/pages/MailSecurity/ListServer.aspx/IsPathExist. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information exposure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-203. The product behaves differently or sends different responses under different circumstances in a way that is observable to an unauthorized actor, which exposes security-relevant information about the state of the product, such as whether a particular operation was successful or not. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
GFI MailEssentials AI versions prior to 22.4 contain an arbitrary directory existence enumeration vulnerability in the ListServer.IsPathExist() web method exposed at /MailEssentials/pages/MailSecurity/ListServer.aspx/IsPathExist. An authenticated user can supply an unrestricted filesystem path via the JSON key \"path\", which is URL-decoded and passed to Directory.Exists(), allowing the attacker to determine whether arbitrary directories exist on the server.
The weakness was shared by Alex Williams. The advisory is shared for download at gfi.ai. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-23621 since 01/14/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
Upgrading to version 22.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
