Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in patrickjuchli basic-ftp up to 5.1.x. Affected by this vulnerability is the function downloadToDir. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The `basic-ftp` FTP client library for Node.js contains a path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) in versions prior to 5.2.0 in the `downloadToDir()` method. A malicious FTP server can send directory listings with filenames containing path traversal sequences (`../`) that cause files to be written outside the intended download directory. Version 5.2.0 patches the issue.
