Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Discourse up to 2025.12.1/2026.1.0. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component CSV Export Endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a authorization vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-863. The product performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action, but it does not correctly perform the check. This allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:

Discourse is an open source discussion platform. Prior to versions 2025.12.2, 2026.1.1, and 2026.2.0, moderators could export user Chat DMs via the CSV export endpoint by exploiting an overly permissive allowlist in `can_export_entity?`. The method allowed moderators to export any entity not explicitly blocked instead of restricting to an explicit allowlist. Versions 2025.12.2, 2026.1.1, and 2026.2.0 patch the issue. No known workarounds are available.

The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-27153 since 02/18/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

Upgrading to version 2025.12.2, 2026.1.1 or 2026.2.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
