Unitree UPK up to 20260226v1 hard-coded key

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Unitree UPK up to 20260226v1 and classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown function. This manipulation causes hard-coded key. This vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2026-1442. The attack is restricted to local execution. No exploit exists.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Unitree UPK up to 20260226v1. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a hard-coded key vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-321. The use of a hard-coded cryptographic key significantly increases the possibility that encrypted data may be recovered. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Since the encryption algorithm used to protect firmware updates is itself encrypted using key material available to an attacker (or anyone paying attention), the firmware updates may be altered by an unauthorized user, and then trusted by a Unitree product, such as the Unitree Go2 and other models. This issue appears to affect all of Unitree’s current offerings as of February 26, 2026, and so should be considered a vulnerability in both the firmware generation and extraction processes. At the time of this release, there is no publicly-documented mechanism to subvert the update process and insert poisoned firmware packages without the equipment owner’s knowledge.

The weakness was disclosed by Andreas Makris as GCVE-1337-2025. It is possible to read the advisory at takeonme.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-1442 since 01/26/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600.001 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
