Details
A vulnerability was found in DOUGDUDE Net::NSCA::Client up to 0.009002 on Perl. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function rand. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a weak prng vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-338. The product uses a Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) in a security context, but the PRNG's algorithm is not cryptographically strong. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Net::NSCA::Client versions through 0.009002 for Perl uses a poor random number generator. Version v0.003 switched to use Data::Rand::Obscure instead of Crypt::Random for generation of a random initialisation vectors. Data::Rand::Obscure uses Perl's built-in rand() function, which is not suitable for cryptographic functions.
The weakness was disclosed by Robert Rothenberg. The advisory is available at metacpan.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-57854 since 03/26/2025. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
