Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in locutusjs locutus up to 2.x. Affected is the function eval. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a eval injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-95. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes code syntax before using the input in a dynamic evaluation call (e.g. "eval"). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Locutus brings stdlibs of other programming languages to JavaScript for educational purposes. Prior to version 3.0.0, a remote code execution (RCE) flaw was discovered in the locutus project, specifically within the call_user_func_array function implementation. The vulnerability allows an attacker to inject arbitrary JavaScript code into the application's runtime environment. This issue stems from an insecure implementation of the call_user_func_array function (and its wrapper call_user_func), which fails to properly validate all components of a callback array before passing them to eval(). This issue has been patched in version 3.0.0.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-29091 since 03/03/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 3.0.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 977a1fb169441e35996a1d2465b512322de500ad is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
