A vulnerability was found in GOVCERT-LU eml_parser up to 2.0.0. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function eml_parser of the file examples/recursively_extract_attachments.py of the component Eml File Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. eml_parser serves as a python module for parsing eml files and returning various information found in the e-mail as well as computed information. Prior to version 2.0.1, the official example script examples/recursively_extract_attachments.py contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows arbitrary file write outside the intended output directory. Attachment filenames extracted from parsed emails are directly used to construct output file paths without any sanitization, allowing an attacker-controlled filename to escape the target directory. This issue has been patched in version 2.0.1.
