parse-community parse-server up to 8.6.12/9.5.1-alpha.1 Cloud Function Endpoint prototype pollution

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in parse-community parse-server up to 8.6.12/9.5.1-alpha.1 and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component Cloud Function Endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a prototype pollution vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-1321. The product receives input from an upstream component that specifies attributes that are to be initialized or updated in an object, but it does not properly control modifications of attributes of the object prototype. Impacted is integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Parse Server is an open source backend that can be deployed to any infrastructure that can run Node.js. Prior to 8.6.13 and 9.5.1-alpha.2, an unauthenticated attacker can crash the Parse Server process by calling a Cloud Function endpoint with a prototype property name as the function name. The server recurses infinitely, causing a call stack size error that terminates the process. Other prototype property names bypass Cloud Function dispatch validation and return HTTP 200 responses, even though no such Cloud Functions are defined. The same applies to dot-notation traversal. All Parse Server deployments that expose the Cloud Function endpoint are affected. This vulnerability is fixed in 8.6.13 and 9.5.1-alpha.2.

The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-30939 since 03/07/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 8.6.13 or 9.0.0 9.5.1-alpha.2 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com.
