Details
A vulnerability was found in stellar rs-soroban-poseidon up to 25.0.0. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a weak hash vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-328. The product uses an algorithm that produces a digest (output value) that does not meet security expectations for a hash function that allows an adversary to reasonably determine the original input (preimage attack), find another input that can produce the same hash (2nd preimage attack), or find multiple inputs that evaluate to the same hash (birthday attack). Impacted is integrity. CVE summarizes:
soroban-poseidon provides Poseidon and Poseidon2 cryptographic hash functions for Soroban smart contracts. Poseidon V1 (PoseidonSponge) accepts variable-length inputs without injective padding. When a caller provides fewer inputs than the sponge rate (inputs.len() k, hash([m1, ..., mk]) equals hash([m1, ..., mk, 0]) because both produce identical pre-permutation states. This affects any use of PoseidonSponge or poseidon_hash where the number of inputs is less than T - 1 (e.g., hashing 1 input with T=3). Poseidon2 (Poseidon2Sponge) is not affected.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-32129 since 03/10/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 25.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
