PX4 PX4-Autopilot up to 1.17.0-rc1 buffer overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as critical has been detected in PX4 PX4-Autopilot up to 1.17.0-rc1. Impacted is an unknown function. The manipulation leads to buffer overflow. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-32706. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. There is no exploit available. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in PX4 PX4-Autopilot up to 1.17.0-rc1 and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

PX4 autopilot is a flight control solution for drones. Prior to 1.17.0-rc2, The crsf_rc parser accepts an oversized variable-length known packet and copies it into a fixed 64-byte global buffer without a bounds check. In deployments where crsf_rc is enabled on a CRSF serial port, an adjacent/raw-serial attacker can trigger memory corruption and crash PX4. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.17.0-rc2.

It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-32706 since 03/13/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

Upgrading to version 1.17.0-rc2 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-12150). Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
