The default configuration of JBoss does not restrict access to the (1) console and (2) web management interfaces, which allows remote attackers to bypass authentication and gain administrative access via direct requests.
The weakness was presented 02/20/2007 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-1036. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
