CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.162/6.6.123/6.12.69/6.18.9 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function __cow_file_range_inline of the component btrfs. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: fix reservation leak in some error paths when inserting inline extent If we fail to allocate a path or join a transaction, we return from __cow_file_range_inline() without freeing the reserved qgroup data, resulting in a leak. Fix this by ensuring we call btrfs_qgroup_free_data() in such cases.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-71268 since 03/17/2026. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 6.1.163, 6.6.124, 6.12.70 or 6.18.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch f7156512c8166d385f574b9ec030479aa7b1e8c9/28b97fcbbf523779688e8de5fe55bf2dae3859f6/f3ee1732851aec6fe6b2cec2ef1b32d4e71d9913/28768bd3abf9995a93f6e01bfce01c60622964dd/c1c050f92d8f6aac4e17f7f2230160794fceef0c is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
