wolfSSL up to 5.8.x Post-Quantum Implementation prng seed

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in wolfSSL up to 5.8.x. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component Post-Quantum Implementation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a prng seed vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-335. The product uses a Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) but does not correctly manage seeds. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:

Protection mechanism failure in wolfCrypt post-quantum implementations (ML-KEM and ML-DSA) in wolfSSL on ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers allows a physical attacker to compromise key material and/or cryptographic outcomes via induced transient faults that corrupt or redirect seed/pointer values during Keccak-based expansion. This issue affects wolfSSL (wolfCrypt): commit hash d86575c766e6e67ef93545fa69c04d6eb49400c6.

The weakness was released by Hariprasad Kelassery Valsaraj. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-3503 since 03/03/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 303109 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-3503), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
