OpenClaw up to 2026.2.25 Create File path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in OpenClaw up to 2026.2.25. This affects some unknown processing of the component Create File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

OpenClaw versions prior to 2026.2.26 contain a path traversal vulnerability in workspace boundary validation that allows attackers to write files outside the workspace through in-workspace symlinks pointing to non-existent out-of-root targets. The vulnerability exists because the boundary check improperly resolves aliases, permitting the first write operation to escape the workspace boundary and create files in arbitrary locations.

It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-32055 since 03/10/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading to version 2026.2.26 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 1aef45bc060b28a0af45a67dc66acd36aef763c9 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0711). Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
