Bpftpserver BulletProof FTP Server 2019.0.0.50 Setting Storage-Path assumed-immutable data is stored in writable memory

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Bpftpserver BulletProof FTP Server 2019.0.0.50. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component Setting Handler. The manipulation of the argument Storage-Path with an unknown input leads to a assumed-immutable data is stored in writable memory vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-1282. Immutable data, such as a first-stage bootloader, device identifiers, and "write-once" configuration settings are stored in writable memory that can be re-programmed or updated in the field. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

BulletProof FTP Server 2019.0.0.50 contains a denial of service vulnerability in the Storage-Path configuration parameter that allows local attackers to crash the application by supplying an excessively long string value. Attackers can enable the Override Storage-Path setting and paste a buffer of 500 bytes or more to trigger an application crash when saving the configuration.

The weakness was shared by Victor Mondragón as 46876. The advisory is available at exploit-db.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-25587 since 03/21/2026.
