Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in F5 NGINX Open Source (unknown version). Affected by this issue is the function ngx_http_mp4_module. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The 32-bit implementation of NGINX Open Source has a vulnerability in the ngx_http_mp4_module module, which might allow an attacker to over-read or over-write NGINX worker memory resulting in its termination, using a specially crafted MP4 file. The issue only affects 32-bit NGINX Open Source if it is built with the ngx_http_mp4_module module and the mp4 directive is used in the configuration file. Additionally, the attack is possible only if an attacker can trigger the processing of a specially crafted MP4 file with the ngx_http_mp4_module module. Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated.
The advisory is shared for download at my.f5.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-27784 since 03/18/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
