Linux Kernel up to 6.18.16/6.19.6 accel rocket_core_init out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.16/6.19.6. This impacts the function rocket_core_init of the component accel. This manipulation causes out-of-bounds. This vulnerability is registered as CVE-2026-23305. No exploit is available. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.16/6.19.6 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function rocket_core_init of the component accel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: accel/rocket: fix unwinding in error path in rocket_probe When rocket_core_init() fails (as could be the case with EPROBE_DEFER), we need to properly unwind by decrementing the counter we just incremented and if this is the first core we failed to probe, remove the rocket DRM device with rocket_device_fini() as well. This matches the logic in rocket_remove(). Failing to properly unwind results in out-of-bounds accesses.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-23305 since 01/13/2026. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 304119 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-23305), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.18.17, 6.19.7 or 7.0-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 7fc4b49474c836cee7d9801abf05e0198fcbfa74/eeaf28c8f4defe371a008a5ddefaf18abf534f81/34f4495a7f72895776b81969639f527c99eb12b9 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (304119) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0861). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
