Linux Kernel up to 7.0-rc1 irdma irdma_create_user_ah memory leak

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.0-rc1. This vulnerability affects the function irdma_create_user_ah of the component irdma. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/irdma: Fix kernel stack leak in irdma_create_user_ah() struct irdma_create_ah_resp { // 8 bytes, no padding __u32 ah_id; // offset 0 - SET (uresp.ah_id = ah->sc_ah.ah_info.ah_idx) __u8 rsvd[4]; // offset 4 - NEVER SET <- LEAK }; rsvd[4]: 4 bytes of stack memory leaked unconditionally. Only ah_id is assigned before ib_respond_udata(). The reserved members of the structure were not zeroed.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-23335 since 01/13/2026. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 303738 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-23335), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.1.167, 6.6.130, 6.12.77, 6.18.17, 6.19.7 or 7.0-rc2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 14b47c07c69930254f549a17ee245c80a65b1609/1b1fac4c7a3ab7f52e9cfb91e5c91216646ca4d8/2fd37450d271d74b3847baed284f9cfdf198c6f8/cfe962216c164fe2b1c1fb6ac925a7413f5abc84/c9bd0007c4bdb7806bbd323287e50f9cf467c51a/74586c6da9ea222a61c98394f2fc0a604748438c is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (303738). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
