A vulnerability was found in Modoboa up to 2.7.0. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function in the library modoboa/lib/sysutils.py of the component Subprocess Call Handler. Modoboa is a mail hosting and management platform. Prior to version 2.7.1, `exec_cmd()` in `modoboa/lib/sysutils.py` always runs subprocess calls with `shell=True`. Since domain names flow directly into shell command strings without any sanitization, a Reseller or SuperAdmin can include shell metacharacters in a domain name to run arbitrary OS commands on the server. Version 2.7.1 patches the issue.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-27602 since 02/20/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1202 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 2.7.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
