Details
A vulnerability was found in EVerest everest-core. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function ifr_name of the component CAN Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
EVerest is an EV charging software stack. Prior to version 2026.02.0, stack-based buffer overflow in CAN interface initialization: passing an interface name longer than IFNAMSIZ (16) to CAN open routines overflows `ifreq.ifr_name`, corrupting adjacent stack data and enabling potential code execution. A malicious or misconfigured interface name can trigger this before any privilege checks. Version 2026.02.0 contains a patch.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-23995 since 01/19/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 2026.02.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
