Details
A vulnerability was found in code16 sharp up to 9.19.x. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component File Upload Endpoint. The manipulation of the argument validation_rule with an unknown input leads to a unrestricted upload vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-434. The product allows the attacker to upload or transfer files of dangerous types that can be automatically processed within the product's environment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Sharp is a content management framework built for Laravel as a package. Versions prior to 9.20.0 contain a vulnerability in the file upload endpoint that allows authenticated users to bypass all file type restrictions. The upload endpoint within the `ApiFormUploadController` accepts a client-controlled `validation_rule` parameter. This parameter is directly passed into the Laravel validator without sufficient server-side enforcement. By intercepting the request and sending `validation_rule[]=file`, an attacker can completely bypass all MIME type and file extension restrictions. This issue has been addressed in version 9.20.0 by removing the client-controlled validation rules and strictly defining upload rules server-side. As a workaround, ensure that the storage disk used for Sharp uploads is strictly private. Under default configurations, an attacker cannot directly execute uploaded PHP files unless a public disk configuration is explicitly used.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-33687 since 03/23/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1608.002.
Upgrading to version 9.20.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
