VMware Spring AI up to 1.0.4/1.1.3 Multimodal Message server-side request forgery

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in VMware Spring AI up to 1.0.4/1.1.3. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component Multimodal Message Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Spring AI's spring-ai-bedrock-converse contains a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in BedrockProxyChatModel when processing multimodal messages that include user-supplied media URLs. Insufficient validation of those URLs allows an attacker to induce the server to issue HTTP requests to unintended internal or external destinations. This issue affects Spring AI: from 1.0.0 before 1.0.5, from 1.1.0 before 1.1.4.

The advisory is available at spring.io. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-22742 since 01/09/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 03/30/2026).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 304267 (Spring AI 1.0.x < 1.0.5 / 1.1.x < 1.1.4 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 1.0.5 or 1.1.4 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (304267). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
