Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in digitalbazaar forge. Affected is an unknown code of the component Ed25519 Signature Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a signature verification vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-347. The product does not verify, or incorrectly verifies, the cryptographic signature for data. This is going to have an impact on integrity. CVE summarizes:
Forge (also called `node-forge`) is a native implementation of Transport Layer Security in JavaScript. Prior to version 1.4.0, Ed25519 signature verification accepts forged non-canonical signatures where the scalar S is not reduced modulo the group order (`S >= L`). A valid signature and its `S + L` variant both verify in forge, while Node.js `crypto.verify` (OpenSSL-backed) rejects the `S + L` variant, as defined by the specification. This class of signature malleability has been exploited in practice to bypass authentication and authorization logic (see CVE-2026-25793, CVE-2022-35961). Applications relying on signature uniqueness (i.e., dedup by signature bytes, replay tracking, signed-object canonicalization checks) may be bypassed. Version 1.4.0 patches the issue.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-33895. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 304110 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-33895), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 1.4.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (304110) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1407). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
