CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Apache Tomcat JK Web Server Connector 1.2.19 (Application Server Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function map_uri_to_worker of the component mod_jk.so. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Stack-based buffer overflow in the map_uri_to_worker function (native/common/jk_uri_worker_map.c) in mod_jk.so for Apache Tomcat JK Web Server Connector 1.2.19 and 1.2.20, as used in Tomcat 4.1.34 and 5.5.20, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long URL that triggers the overflow in a URI worker map routine.

The bug was discovered 03/02/2007. The weakness was disclosed 03/04/2007 (Website). The advisory is available at tomcat.apache.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-0774 since 02/06/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.

A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 24841 (GLSA-200703-16 : Apache JK Tomcat Connector: Remote execution of arbitrary code), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86805 (Apache Tomcat mod_jk connector Arbitrary Code Execution Vulnerability).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 5152.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (32794), Exploit-DB (4162), Tenable (24841), SecurityFocus (BID 22791†) and OSVDB (33855†). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
