Details
A vulnerability was found in 0xJacky nginx-ui up to 2.3.3 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
Nginx UI is a web user interface for the Nginx web server. Prior to version 2.3.4, the nginx-ui configuration improperly handles URL-encoded traversal sequences. When specially crafted paths are supplied, the backend resolves them to the base Nginx configuration directory and executes the operation on the base directory (/etc/nginx). In particular, this allows an authenticated user to remove the entire /etc/nginx directory, resulting in a partial Denial of Service. This issue has been patched in version 2.3.4.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-33027 since 03/17/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Upgrading to version 2.3.4 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com.
