A vulnerability was found in VideoLAN VLC Media Player up to 0.8.6d (Multimedia Player Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component SDP Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Heap-based buffer overflow in modules/access/rtsp/real_sdpplin.c in the Xine library, as used in VideoLAN VLC Media Player 0.8.6d and earlier, allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or execute arbitrary code via long Session Description Protocol (SDP) data.
The weakness was shared 01/10/2008 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is shared for download at aluigi.altervista.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-0295 since 01/16/2008. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
