Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Foxit PDF Editor and PDF Reader (version unknown). Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a uncontrolled search path vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-427. The product uses a fixed or controlled search path to find resources, but one or more locations in that path can be under the control of unintended actors. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The application's update service, when checking for updates, loads certain system libraries from a search path that includes directories writable by low‑privileged users and is not strictly restricted to trusted system locations. Because these libraries may be resolved and loaded from user‑writable locations, a local attacker can place a malicious library there and have it loaded with SYSTEM privileges, resulting in local privilege escalation and arbitrary code execution.
The advisory is shared at foxit.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-3775 since 03/08/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. An attack has to be approached locally. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 04/01/2026).
