Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Metronik MEPIS RM up to 8.2.106. Affected by this issue is an unknown code in the library Mx.Web.ComponentModel.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a hard-coded credentials vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-798. The product contains hard-coded credentials, such as a password or cryptographic key, which it uses for its own inbound authentication, outbound communication to external components, or encryption of internal data. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A vulnerability was identified in MEPIS RM, an industrial software product developed by Metronik. The application contained a hardcoded cryptographic key within the Mx.Web.ComponentModel.dll component. When the option to store domain passwords was enabled, this key was used to encrypt user passwords before storing them in the application’s database. An attacker with sufficient privileges to access the database could extract the encrypted passwords, decrypt them using the embedded key, and gain unauthorized access to the associated ICS/OT environment.
The advisory is available at cert.si. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-25601 since 02/03/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. Local access is required to approach this attack. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1110.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 8.2.0107 eliminates this vulnerability.
