Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in payloadcms payload up to 3.77.x. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component URL Endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Payload is a free and open source headless content management system. Prior to version 3.78.0 in @payloadcms/storage-azure, @payloadcms/storage-gcs, @payloadcms/storage-r2, and @payloadcms/storage-s3, the client-upload signed-URL endpoints for S3, GCS, Azure, and R2 did not properly sanitize filenames. An attacker could craft filenames to escape the intended storage location. This issue has been patched in version 3.78.0 for @payloadcms/storage-azure, @payloadcms/storage-gcs, @payloadcms/storage-r2, and @payloadcms/storage-s3.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-34750 since 03/30/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Upgrading to version 3.78.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
