Details
A vulnerability was found in AcademySoftwareFoundation OpenEXR up to 3.4.7 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function exr_decoding_run of the component EXR File Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
OpenEXR provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, an image storage format for the motion picture industry. From version 3.4.0 to before version 3.4.8, a crafted B44 or B44A EXR file can cause an out-of-bounds write in any application that decodes it via exr_decoding_run(). Consequences range from immediate crash (most likely) to corruption of adjacent heap allocations (layout-dependent). This issue has been patched in version 3.4.8.
