Details
A vulnerability was found in copier-org copier up to 9.14.0. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function _subdirectory. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Copier is a library and CLI app for rendering project templates. Prior to version 9.14.1, Copier's _subdirectory setting is documented as the subdirectory to use as the template root. However, the current implementation accepts parent-directory traversal such as .. and uses it directly when selecting the template root. As a result, a template can escape its own directory and make Copier render files from the parent directory without --UNSAFE. This issue has been patched in version 9.14.1.
