Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.19.9/7.0-rc4 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function __in6_dev_get of the component ipv6. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: add NULL checks for idev in SRv6 paths __in6_dev_get() can return NULL when the device has no IPv6 configuration (e.g. MTU < IPV6_MIN_MTU or after NETDEV_UNREGISTER). Add NULL checks for idev returned by __in6_dev_get() in both seg6_hmac_validate_skb() and ipv6_srh_rcv() to prevent potential NULL pointer dereferences.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-23442 since 01/13/2026. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 6.19.10 or 7.0-rc5 eliminates this vulnerability.
