Details
A vulnerability has been found in prompts.chat (affected version not known) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
prompts.chat prior to commit 0f8d4c3 contains a path traversal vulnerability in skill file handling that allows attackers to write arbitrary files to the client system by crafting malicious ZIP archives with unsanitized filenames containing path traversal sequences. Attackers can exploit missing server-side filename validation to inject path traversal sequences ../ into skill file archives, which when extracted by vulnerable tools write files outside the intended directory and overwrite shell initialization files to achieve code execution.
The weakness was shared by mdisec. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-22661 since 01/08/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
Applying the patch 0f8d4c381abd7b2d7478c9fdee9522149c2d65e5 is able to eliminate this problem.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-18821). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
