Details
A vulnerability was found in zend 2.2.3 and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file php.ini. The manipulation of the argument -f with an unknown input leads to a symlink vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-61. The product, when opening a file or directory, does not sufficiently account for when the file is a symbolic link that resolves to a target outside of the intended control sphere. This could allow an attacker to cause the product to operate on unauthorized files. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
ini_modifier (sgid-zendtech) in Zend Platform 2.2.3 and earlier allows local users to modify the system php.ini file by editing a copy of php.ini file using the -f parameter, and then performing a symlink attack using the directory that contains the attacker-controlled php.ini file, and linking this directory to /usr/local/Zend/etc.
The weakness was shared 01/26/2007 by Stefan Esser (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at zend.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-1369 since 03/09/2007. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
