Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in tomdever wpForo Forum Plugin up to 2.4.16 on WordPress. Affected is an unknown function of the component Path Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The wpForo Forum plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file deletion in all versions up to, and including, 2.4.16. This is due to a missing file name/path validation against path traversal sequences. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber level access and above, to delete arbitrary files on the server by embedding a crafted path traversal string in a forum post body and then deleting the post.
The weakness was published by Craig Smith and Leonid Semenenko. The advisory is shared for download at wordfence.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-3666 since 03/06/2026.
