A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in vim up to 9.2.0279. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component zip.vim Plugin. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Vim is an open source, command line text editor. Prior to 9.2.0280, a path traversal bypass in Vim's zip.vim plugin allows overwriting of arbitrary files when opening specially crafted zip archives, circumventing the previous fix for CVE-2025-53906. This vulnerability is fixed in 9.2.0280.
