CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in OpenPrinting cups up to 2.4.16 on Linux. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function _ppdCreateFromIPP of the file cups/ppd-cache.c of the component IPP Attribute Handler. The manipulation of the argument length with an unknown input leads to a integer underflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-191. The product subtracts one value from another, such that the result is less than the minimum allowable integer value, which produces a value that is not equal to the correct result. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. In versions 2.4.16 and prior, an integer underflow vulnerability in _ppdCreateFromIPP() (cups/ppd-cache.c) allows any unprivileged local user to crash the cupsd root process by supplying a negative job-password-supported IPP attribute. The bounds check only caps the upper bound, so a negative value passes validation, is cast to size_t (wrapping to ~2^64), and is used as the length argument to memset() on a 33-byte stack buffer. This causes an immediate SIGSEGV in the cupsd root process. Combined with systemd's Restart=on-failure, an attacker can repeat the crash for sustained denial of service.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-39314 since 04/06/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 307661 (Fedora 43 : cups (2026-82a2214b53)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (307661) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0994). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
