Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in filebrowser File Browser up to 2.63.0. Affected is the function Matches of the file rules/rules.go. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
File Browser is a file managing interface for uploading, deleting, previewing, renaming, and editing files within a specified directory. Prior to 2.63.1, the Matches() function in rules/rules.go uses strings.HasPrefix() without a trailing directory separator when matching paths against access rules. A rule for /uploads also matches /uploads_backup/, granting or denying access to unintended directories. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.63.1.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-35605 since 04/03/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
