Details
A vulnerability was found in Eclipse Jetty up to 9.4.60/10.0.28/11.0.28/12.0.33/12.1.7. It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function JASPIAuthenticator. The manipulation of the argument ThreadLocal with an unknown input leads to a sensitive information in resource not removed before reuse vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-226. The product releases a resource such as memory or a file so that it can be made available for reuse, but it does not clear or "zeroize" the information contained in the resource before the product performs a critical state transition or makes the resource available for reuse by other entities. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In Eclipse Jetty, the class JASPIAuthenticator initiates the authentication checks, which set two ThreadLocal variable. Upon returning from the initial checks, there are conditions that cause an early return from the JASPIAuthenticator code without clearing those ThreadLocals. A subsequent request using the same thread inherits the ThreadLocal values, leading to a broken access control and privilege escalation.
The weakness was published by HRsGIT. It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-5795 since 04/08/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
