Details
A vulnerability was found in Axios up to 1.14.x. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a response splitting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-113. The product receives data from an HTTP agent/component (e.g., web server, proxy, browser, etc.), but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes CR and LF characters before the data is included in outgoing HTTP headers. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Axios is a promise based HTTP client for the browser and Node.js. Versions prior to 1.15.0 and 0.3.1 are vulnerable to a specific gadget-style attack chain in which prototype pollution in a third-party dependency may be leveraged to inject unsanitized header values into outbound requests. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.15.0 and 0.3.1.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-40175 since 04/09/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
