Details
A vulnerability has been found in ImageMagick up to 6.9.13-43/7.1.2-18 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the component Image Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
ImageMagick is free and open-source software used for editing and manipulating digital images. In versions below both 7.1.2-19 and 6.9.13-44, an integer overflow in the despeckle operation causes a heap buffer overflow on 32-bit builds that will result in an out of bounds write. This issue has been fixed in versions 6.9.13-44 and 7.1.2-19.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-34238 since 03/26/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely.
