Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in ImageMagick up to 6.9.13-43/7.1.2-18. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component Image Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
ImageMagick is free and open-source software used for editing and manipulating digital images. In versions below both 7.1.2-19 and 6.9.13-44, the viff encoder contains an integer truncation/wraparound issue on 32-bit builds that could trigger an out of bounds heap write, potentially causing a crash. This issue has been fixed in versions 6.9.13-44 and 7.1.2-19.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-33900 since 03/24/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
