Details
A vulnerability was found in NETxAutomation NETxEIB 3.0 (Automation Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function iopcsyncio::read. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
NETxAutomation NETxEIB OPC Server before 3.0.1300 does not properly validate OLE for Process Control (OPC) server handles, which allows attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors involving the (1) IOPCSyncIO::Read, (2) IOPCSyncIO::Write, (3) IOPCServer::AddGroup, (4) IOPCServer::RemoveGroup, (5) IOPCCommon::SetClientName, and (6) IOPCGroupStateMgt::CloneGroup functions, which allow access to arbitrary memory. NOTE: the vectors might be limited to attackers with physical access.
The weakness was disclosed 03/21/2007 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-1313 since 03/06/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 3.0.1300 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at SecurityFocus (BID 23059†), OSVDB (34440†), Secunia (SA24612†) and SecurityTracker (ID 1017803†). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
