Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Red Hat OpenShift GitOps (version unknown). This issue affects an unknown function of the component ArgoCD Image Updater. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a insufficient granularity of access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-1220. The product implements access controls via a policy or other feature with the intention to disable or restrict accesses (reads and/or writes) to assets in a system from untrusted agents. However, implemented access controls lack required granularity, which renders the control policy too broad because it allows accesses from unauthorized agents to the security-sensitive assets. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
A flaw was found in ArgoCD Image Updater. This vulnerability allows an attacker, with permissions to create or modify an ImageUpdater resource in a multi-tenant environment, to bypass namespace boundaries. By exploiting insufficient validation, the attacker can trigger unauthorized image updates on applications managed by other tenants. This leads to cross-namespace privilege escalation, impacting application integrity through unauthorized application updates.
The advisory is shared at access.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-6388 since 04/15/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 04/16/2026).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
