Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.79/6.18.20/6.19.10 and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function meson_spicc_probe of the component spi. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-415. The product calls free() twice on the same memory address, potentially leading to modification of unexpected memory locations. The impact remains unknown. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: meson-spicc: Fix double-put in remove path meson_spicc_probe() registers the controller with devm_spi_register_controller(), so teardown already drops the controller reference via devm cleanup. Calling spi_controller_put() again in meson_spicc_remove() causes a double-put.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-31489 since 03/09/2026. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/05/2026).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 325059 (Debian dla-4665 : affs-modules-6.1.0-48-4kc-malta-di - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.12.80, 6.18.21 or 6.19.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 40ad0334c17b23d8b66b1082ad1478a6202e90e2/da06a104f0486355073ff0d1bcb1fcbebb7080d6/9b812ceb75a6260c17c91db4b9e74ead8cfa06f5/63542bb402b7013171c9f621c28b609eda4dbf1f is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
