Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Froxlor up to 2.3.5. Affected by this vulnerability is the function Language::loadLanguage of the component API Endpoint. The manipulation of the argument def_language with an unknown input leads to a php file inclusion vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-98. The PHP application receives input from an upstream component, but it does not restrict or incorrectly restricts the input before its usage in "require," "include," or similar functions. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Froxlor is open source server administration software. Prior to version 2.3.6, the Froxlor API endpoint `Customers.update` (and `Admins.update`) does not validate the `def_language` parameter against the list of available language files. An authenticated customer can set `def_language` to a path traversal payload (e.g., `../../../../../var/customers/webs/customer1/evil`), which is stored in the database. On subsequent requests, `Language::loadLanguage()` constructs a file path using this value and executes it via `require`, achieving arbitrary PHP code execution as the web server user. Version 2.3.6 fixes the issue.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-41228 since 04/18/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
