Buffer overflow in the ArcSDE service (giomgr) in Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) ArcGIS before 9.2 Service Pack 2, when using three tiered ArcSDE configurations, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (giomgr crash) and execute arbitrary code via long parameters in crafted requests.
The weakness was presented 03/29/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at labs.idefense.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-1770 since 03/29/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 9.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
