Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.129/6.12.77/6.18.19/6.19.9 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/platform/uv: Handle deconfigured sockets When a socket is deconfigured, it's mapped to SOCK_EMPTY (0xffff). This causes a panic while allocating UV hub info structures. Fix this by using NUMA_NO_NODE, allowing UV hub info structures to be allocated on valid nodes.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-31542 since 03/09/2026. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
Upgrading to version 6.6.130, 6.12.78, 6.18.20 or 6.19.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch c51957601d32c0d195bce0b9345dfe93ef5728cc/9956d4892e78812246336c7ea51f5aa62018049e/79f0faf81d3bbbe5f07bf6892450d3740a1b290d/c1cf2218d2fa40a49921a7460981e5faab26f04e/1f6aa5bbf1d0f81a8a2aafc16136e7dd9a609ff3 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1279). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
